Four everyday athleisure outfits, with variations built from your wardrobe. By Galaya Paris.

A week of outfits can start with a small selection of pieces you already enjoy wearing. This guide offers four everyday outfits and variations to suit your plans, without prescribing an ideal wardrobe.

Prepare a base for the week

Start with the pieces you like wearing. For the following examples, choose a sportswear base and a few layers:

  • Leggings or a set, then a sweatshirt if you like
  • A shirt and jacket from your everyday wardrobe to vary the outfit's lines

Choose shoes and a bag for your journeys, the weather and the day's setting.

Vary the same outfit

Here are two possible interpretations to compare, without ranking them:

More structured version More casual version
Leggings + oversized shirt + loafers Leggings + plain T-shirt + trainers
Matching set + trench coat + structured bag Matching set + gym backpack + cap
Premium sweatshirt + straight jeans + ankle boots Hoodie + joggers + flip-flops
Sports bra + blazer + fluid trousers Sports bra + shorts + beach sandals
Try this: change just one piece to see its effect on the outfit.

Five families of pieces to reuse

1. Leggings: one possible base

Compare:
  • A waist height that feels right for you
  • A colour and fabric finish you enjoy
  • How the seams or construction feel on you
  • Coverage when tried on, standing and moving

How to wear it:

  • With an oversized white shirt + loafers
  • Under a mid-length shirt dress
  • With a blazer + low ankle boots

2. The coordinated set: a base for layering

Sports bra + leggings in the same color and same fabric if you enjoy tone-on-tone; pieces in related shades can also work together.

One option : use a set to create a silhouette, then try a coat or jacket for the weather.

3. The sweatshirt: a layer to reuse

Try:
  • A thickness suited to the weather and your layers
  • A cropped, straight or loose cut, as you prefer
  • Solid colors: cream, beige, heather grey, burgundy

How to wear it:

  • With tailored trousers + minimalist sneakers
  • Under a long trench coat
  • With a midi skirt + ankle boots

4. The jacket: change the outer line

Use a jacket from your wardrobe to compare the effects:
  • A bomber in a cut you like in a fabric you enjoy
  • A sport-tailoring jacket, halfway between a blazer and a track jacket
  • A mid-length trench if the weather suits

5. Footwear: choose for the journey

Compare your shoes with the complete outfit: a quiet or more noticeable shape can change its balance. Some options:
  • White or light trainers already in your wardrobe
  • Black trainers, quiet or more noticeable as you prefer
  • Other options: ankle boots, loafers or mules if you enjoy the combination and they suit your day.

Four everyday outfits

Outfit 1: a day at the office

Black leggings + oversized white shirt + beige blazer + loafers + structured bag. Adapt it: consider your office's dress practices; trousers can replace the leggings if you prefer.

Outfit 2: a weekend outing

Beige matching set + camel trench coat + white sneakers + leather bag. Variation: reuse the first outfit's shirt as an open layer if you want to replace the trench.

Outfit 3: lunch with friends

Sport jumpsuit, one-piece + leather jacket + ankle boots + small bag. Variation: keep the first outfit's bag and try the jacket over your coordinated set if you do not wear a jumpsuit.

Outfit 4: a Sunday walk

Premium sweatshirt + fluid tailored trousers + white sneakers + oversized sunglasses. Variation: reuse the weekend trainers and add your chosen coat as the weather calls for.

Five adjustments to try

1. Choose the place of logos

If several logos catch your eye, compare the outfit with one plain piece. Keep the amount of contrast you enjoy, without a prescribed number of brands.

2. Add or remove a layer

Try a shirt or jacket over your sportswear set for another look. Add it if you feel like it and according to the setting.

3. Compare proportions

A loose sweatshirt and loose joggers can be a coherent choice. Compare them with a shorter top or closer-fitting bottoms. Observe the proportions in the mirror, then choose the ones you enjoy.

4. Place a bright colour

A bright shade can appear in the top, shoes or an accessory. Try one of these starting points. A neutral base is one option, to adapt to your favourite colours.

5. Observe the fabric when trying it on

Look at the drape, coverage and feel on you. Shine or a synthetic fibre alone does not determine a garment's quality. Keeping what suits you makes future choices easier.

Choose a palette for the week

Here is one possible palette and a role each shade can play. Choose only those already present in your outfits:

Color Possible role
Deep black Base for bottoms
Beige / camel / cream Shirt or coat
Navy / ink Another dark base
Anthracite / charcoal Layer or accessory
Terracotta / brick Colour accent
Olive / sage Another possible accent
Start with two or three shades you enjoy wearing. You can add a bright colour if you feel like it; the proportions of your wardrobe remain personal.

Add only what is missing

Start with pieces you already wear and enjoy. The following list is an example to adapt, not a basket to buy in full:

  1. 2 leggings (black and beige, for example), if you use both
  2. 2 sports bras in shades to pair with your bottoms
  3. 1 complete matching set if you like sets; it can reuse the pieces above
  4. 1 mid-length camel trench coat
  5. 1 pair of white leather sneakers
  6. 1 premium sweatshirt in cream or burgundy

Before buying, try rebuilding the four outfits with what you own. This makes it easier to identify a piece you actually need.
